Studio updates ft. new editions
Spring-Summer 2023
Dear friends,
I am writing to you with some updates on my activities over the past few months.
In late March, I finished a nine-month fellowship at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany, where I developed a substantial body of new paintings. To conclude my residency period there, my work has been featured on the Solitude blog via an essay by Sophia Roxane Rohwetter, largely focused on how my wool paintings mobilize Monique Wittig's typographical interventions in The Lesbian Body. I consider this a contribution to the conversation on Wittig's work that has been amplified throughout 2023, which is the 20th anniversary of her death, and the 50th anniversary of the publication of Le Corps Lesbien (the original French version of The Lesbian Body).
Just after I left Germany, I was in residence in the paper-making studio at Women's Studio Workshop in upstate NY. In late May, I traveled to Rome for a residency at Lateral Roma, generously supported by a grant from Lighton International Artists Exchange Program. Upon the invitation of Lateral Roma curator Jazmina Figueroa, I also mounted a solo show there, Lacunary Seeming.

I have participated in a handful of group shows this spring-summer, evidence of which you can find at the links below, as well as on my website.

Taking Shapes at Lore Deutz, Cologne, Germany, curated by Miriam Bettin & Alwin Lay — see also feature on Art Viewer with installation shots
I Am the Passenger at MOTHER Gallery, Beacon, NY
A two-person show with Xio Martin at MOPS, Philadelphia, PA
Between September and December, I am excited to be returning to NYC to produce a collaborative exhibition at KAJE in Brooklyn which will feature an evolving textile installation and performance contributions - details TBA. As I am overdue for many New York reunions, I will be happy to see you at KAJE and around town.
In support of the ongoing activities of KAJE, I have also designed a limited edition towel in two colorways, available now:::
Finally, in other seasonally-relevant edition news, a t-shirt I originally designed while living in Provincetown in 2016, THAT CERTAINLY WAS A FIRST LAST NIGHT!, is available in the DUNES shop.
Thanks for your attention, and wishing you a restorative summer,
Wilder
